How to use Gengo

  1. Learn — type a word (or tap a chip) and press Explore. Read it, hear it, then Save Word (+10 XP).
  2. Translate — your word is pre-filled; pick a language card and press Translate.
  3. Speak — hear the word in a female or male voice, then say it back with the mic (or type what you hear).
  4. Context — see the word in real Wikipedia sentences.
  5. Quiz — unlocks at 4 saved words; rounds of 5, +5 XP per correct answer.
  6. My Words — your collection with mastery stars ★★★.
  7. Focus Sprint — 5 distraction-free minutes with flashcards. The only place words get mastered, and where you earn a Streak Shield 🛡. Leaving the tab pauses it (3 strikes cancel).

Daily goal: 3 activities (save, quiz or sprint) keep your streak 🔥 alive. A Streak Shield covers one missed day automatically.

Accessibility

  • Everything works with the keyboard (Tab, Enter, arrows) and screen readers — every button is labelled and results are announced.
  • Header switches: Motion (turn off animation), Contrast, Text size, Easy read (dyslexia-friendly spacing).
  • Nothing is audio-only: every Listen has text, speaking practice has a typed fallback.
  • Gengo follows your system's reduced-motion and high-contrast settings.
